Scientific Training Lab Technician (Industrial Placement)

The Scientific Training Lab Technician will play a key role in creating and delivering innovative training programmes that support the growth of the UK’s advanced therapy and biomanufacturing sectors. Having an understanding of bioprocessing systems, this role is ideal for someone passionate about enabling others through education and learning.   
A technician in the Skills Training Lab Team will take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance of the onsite labs and supporting documentation in line with GLP (Good Lab Practice) requirements.     
Key Accountabilities: 
  • Support the day-to-day operation of a high-tech training laboratory with GMP like-graded and cleanroom capabilities 
  • Support design and deliver face to face and online technical training solutions across GMP bioprocessing and digital systems (training will be provided) 
  • Create e-learning solutions with a recognised authoring tool (training will be provided) 
  • Support the implementation and application of training technologies i.e., VR, AR and XR to enhance the learning experience (training will be provided) 
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, training providers and SMEs to shape content that reflects fast changing industry needs 
  • Support the facilitation of industry events and equipment access provision  
  • Provide oversight to training lab based practical activities and support training in aseptic handling, bioprocess workflows, and analytical methods 
Experience/ Desirable:  
  • Enthusiasm for training, mentoring, or educational delivery in scientific contexts  
  • Experience and knowledge of IT skills (Basic digitalisation and processing of electronic platforms used in biotech labs e.g., Electronic Lab Notebooks and/or Electronic Batch Manufacturing Records) 
  • Experience or knowledge of basic of medicines manufacture 
  • Experience or interest in lab automation, robotics, or mechatronics

  • Experience of standard Microsoft packages

Education / Qualifications 
  • Successful completion of the second year of a bachelor’s degree course in life sciences subject  
  • Or HND / HNC or equivalent in biology, chemistry, microbiology or other life science biotechnology / pharmaceutical sector related subject 
  • Or undertaking a technical qualification
