Scottish Advanced Therapies Network
Fostering collaboration and supporting growth
Scotland is home to world-leading expertise and capabilities in advanced therapies.
By bringing together industry, academia and healthcare, the Scottish Advanced Therapies Network supports further development of this thriving sector, to accelerate the delivery of life changing treatments for patients.
About the Network
Fostering collaboration and supporting growth across the advanced therapy industries in Scotland and beyond.
The Scottish Advanced Therapies Network is coordinated by the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult, and supported by Scottish Enterprise.
The Network was established in January 2024, to support the development of the advanced therapies sector, which are recognised as key growth drivers in Scotland and the North of the UK. Advanced therapies in particular are expected play a strategically significant role in supporting expansion of Scotland's thriving life sciences industry, which aims to increase from £10.5billion in 2025, to £25billion turnover by 2035.
Scotland is home to a thriving hub of advanced therapy companies and supporting pharma-services, as well as a world-leading academic research base, including the largest cluster of stem cell scientists in Europe. It also offers a favourable environment for clinical trials, with 29 ATMP trials running across Scottish sites in 2024, and a supportive collaborative ecosystem which the Network helps facilitate.
Advanced therapies have a unique ability to address some of the fundamental causes of disease, unmatched by any other therapeutic modality. For this reason, they are often described as the future of healthcare – and Scotland has the potential to position itself as a global leader in this field.
By seeking to overcome shared challenges, and providing opportunities for stakeholders to connect and collaborate, the Scottish Advanced Therapies Network is helping realise this potential.
What we do
The Network is focussed on supporting the development of a pipeline of new advanced therapies, and growing the cluster of world-leading industry, academic and clinical expertise, within Scotland.
We organise quarterly networking events for the sector, which anyone working in advanced therapies or a related role can attend. These are a valuable forum for colleagues from across the sector to build collaborations, connect, and learn together.
We also generate insights and advocate on behalf of the sector in key policy-making forums, and engage with influential decision makers who can address key challenges, and support growth.
