Ian McCubbin receives Peter Dunnill award at bioProcess UK

Ian McCubbin CBE, Chairman of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult (CGT Catapult), has received the Peter Dunnill Lifetime Achievement Award at the BioIndustry Association’s (BIA) bioProcess UK conference.

BIA established this Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 in honour of Peter Dunnill, a pioneer in biochemical engineering. Since then, the award has been presented annually to recognise outstanding leadership and contributions to the bioprocessing sector in the UK.

Ian has been Chairman of the CGT Catapult since January 2022 and has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including working for leading companies such as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). He is also Chairman of RoslinCT, an Edinburgh-based cell and gene therapy contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO).

Over his career, Ian has led and contributed to various government and industry groups. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ian led the manufacturing activities of the government’s Vaccines Task Force (VTF), supporting the due diligence team involved in vaccine selection. Between 2013 and 2017, he was Chair of the Medicine Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP) and he also co-chaired the Advanced Therapy Manufacturing Task Force which was responsible for defining the conditions that are needed to establish commercial-scale manufacturing in the UK.

This recognition is very humbling and is testament to the good fortune I have had over my career to work with many talented and inspiring colleagues. I am also thankful to the BIA for its ongoing efforts that are helping to ensure the success of the bioprocessing sector in the UK.

Ian McCubbin, Chairman of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult

Many congratulations to Ian for this well-deserved award. It is recognition of his commitment and positive impact on the advanced therapies industry, and the important role he continues to play providing invaluable guidance and expertise to support the sector.

Matthew Durdy, Chief Executive of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult

The Peter Dunnill Award recognises long-term outstanding contribution to bioprocessing, and who better to receive this year’s award than Ian McCubbin CBE. Drawing from his long and successful career at GSK, over the last decade Ian has chaired the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP), co-chaired with HMG the Advanced Therapies Manufacturing Taskforce and led manufacturing in the HMG Vaccines Taskforce, as well as chairing the BIA Vaccines Manufacturing Expert Group. Congratulations Ian, very well deserved.
