Cell and gene therapies, also known as advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs), have the potential to transform outcomes for patients with debilitating or life-shortening diseases.
Four years on from publication of the 2022 report, National Cell and Gene Therapy Vision for the UK, important progress has been made across the UK in expanding access, increasing clinical trial activity, and strengthening NHS delivery capability. However, barriers remain across the pathway that must be resolved to safeguard the UK’s leadership position in this area.
This report highlights where progress has been made against the five barriers to ATMP delivery outlined in the 2022 publication and where further action is required. It calls for a government-supported National Advanced Therapies Vision for the UK to provide a clear roadmap for delivery.
