Research Technician Apprentice

As an integral member of the Technology and Process Innovation (TPI) team, the Research Technician Apprentice will assist in the carrying out of scientific experimentation, laboratory investigations and/or production activities across Research & Development of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). The role will operate within a highly regulated environment to control the quality and safety of the Advanced Therapies being developed. As part of their role, the Research Technician Apprentice will use specialised technical skills and advanced scientific techniques following procedures associated with the Company’s operational plans and assist in this delivery as part of the wider team. They are expected to develop their own awareness of the research context to help contribute to the proposal of new scientific ideas and protocols. The Research Technician Apprentice will also spend 20% of their time undertaking a study program with the University of Kent towards achieving a Foundation Degree in Applied Bioscience (for ATMP) with the majority of study taking place via distance learning.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist in laboratory investigations using the appropriate scientific techniques, procedures and methods relevant to the development of Advanced Therapies.
  • Participate in the design and execution of experiments, purchasing and receiving materials, and report the scientific results to senior colleagues.
  • Ensure the accurate recording of technical data in accordance with good practice and approved Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Support operational efficiency by ensuring the laboratory is adequately resourced and everything is clearly labelled.
  • Performing controlled cleaning of laboratories and specialised equipment in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Assist in the managing of scientific projects from project planning through to project milestones, risk analysis and key performance measures and to contribute to the wider organisations operational plans.
  • Timely and successful completion of modules and assessments as required for
  • University of Kent’s Foundation Degree in Applied Bioscience (for ATMP).

Education / Qualifications

  • UCAS points including preferably a B in A-Level Biology or equivalent.
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification in both English and Math’s at Grade 4 or above.
