An Introduction to Biomanufacturing and Advanced Therapies
This one-day, classroom-based training course covers the fundamental principles of biology which underpin today’s biotherapeutics, with a particular emphasis on advanced therapies including cell therapies and gene therapies. With the basics covered we explore the scope of advanced therapies and their disease targets. Through case studies we discuss the considerations for the development of advanced therapies and the testing required to demonstrate these products are both safe and efficacious. Delegates are also given an overview of the processes and challenges involved in the manufacture of advanced therapies, plus an insight into the role of the Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult in supporting the advanced therapies sector. We round off the day with a tour of our state-of-the-art Skills and Training Laboratories where delegates will see examples of the process equipment and analytical equipment as discussed over the course of the day.
Learning objectives:
- Recall the history of biotechnology
- Understand the principles of cell biology that underpin advanced therapies, and apply this knowledge to the scope, development and manufacture of Advanced Therapies Medicinal Products (ATMPs)
- Recall the underlying biology of the immune system and link the concepts to applications in cellular immunotherapies
- Describe examples and applications of biotherapeutics and ATMPs
- Recall and discuss the basic processing steps used in biomanufacturing
- Appreciate and identify the challenges of manufacturing ATMPs
Who should attend:
People new to biotherapeutics and advanced therapies (including industry suppliers), and those currently working within these sectors, wishing to gain a better understanding of the underlying science, applications and processes involved in the manufacture of biotherapeutics and advanced therapies.
