Principles and Applications of Flow Cytometry for Therapeutics

This one-day, intermediate level course features classroom-based lectures plus hands-on laboratory sessions. Delegates with a basic understanding of flow cytometry will be guided through a series of topics to take their understanding to the next level. Our expert trainers have extensive experience with a wide variety of modern flow cytometers and sorters and have wide-ranging applications experience from research through to support for the manufacture of advanced therapeutics. Therefore, our trainers are ideally positioned to answer delegate’s questions from consumables selection through to system set-up. Utilising a Miltenyi MACSQuant X flow cytometer located within our state-of-the-art training facility, delegates will have the opportunity to participate in exemplar experiments to understand compensation and immunophenotyping of cells as frequently used for therapy development.

Learning objectives:

  • Recall the basic principles of flow cytometry including fluidics, electronics and optics in the context of a flow cytometer
  • Appreciate the use of fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies for the identification and characterisation of cell sub-populations and the role of compensation
  • Explore and evaluate the experimental tools and design options for experiments: panel design, compensation, fixative selection, staining and blocking techniques for samples
  • Become familiar with the operation and maintenance of flow cytometry equipment and be able to apply best practices to your own systems
  • Appreciate the use of immunophenotyping for advanced therapy applications
  • Understand flow cytometry data analysis using FlowJo™

Who should attend:

Scientists working in the advanced therapies and biomanufacturing sectors in roles such as analytical development, process development or, quality control as well as scientists from academia working in areas such as immunology, virology, molecular biology, and cancer biology, plus anyone else who wishes to build on their foundation knowledge of flow cytometry and its application in the field of therapeutics.
