The Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s laboratories in London have received LEAF accreditation in recognition of efforts to improve sustainability.
The LEAF programme was set up to support the research industry in reducing its environmental impact. It provides both tools to assess the sustainability and efficiency of laboratories and recommendations about how this can be improved, for example how to reduce use of energy, water, and single-use plastic.
The Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult’s (CGT Catapult) London Technology and Process Innovation laboratories based in Guys Hospital have been assessed as meeting the bronze standard for LEAF accreditation.
The organisation is now rolling out sustainability initiatives trialled in these laboratories to its other sites, to further reduce its environmental footprint.
“The work of LEAF has been crucial in helping to drive an increased focus on sustainability within the science and research sectors. We look forward to continuing our sustainability journey and working with LEAF to further identify ways we can operate more efficiently and reduce energy use and waste.”
Matthew Durdy, Chief Executive of CGT Catapult
“CGT Catapult operates an incredible mix of world-class laboratories, and we’re really proud to see LEAF supporting their sustainability efforts. We’re also excited to see how we can further adapt LEAF for unique sites like this, which represent future technologies.”
