News: Cell and Gene Therapy Catapult welcomes Innovate UK’s new competition for the industrialisation of manufacture of cell and gene therapies

Today saw the announcement by Innovate UK of an £11 million competition to industrialise and build the capability for the large scale manufacture of cell or gene therapies. This is a great opportunity for companies that are developing cell and gene therapies and want to create a UK manufacturing base for themselves.

It’s also a chance for them to work with us in their application to the competition as we are building our manufacturing facility in Stevenage. The facility is being built to operate to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) at scale and removes the capital risk for companies who need this type of facility. We believe it makes us the perfect collaborator for an application to the competition. Our costs in a collaboration are 100% funded, delivering powerful access to the capabilities and expertise of the CGT Catapult.

We welcome this competition as another step in creating a UK cell and gene therapy industry. It should enable the industrialisation of a company’s manufacturing process and build linkages in the manufacturing supply chain.
